6. Johnson Gals :: Plank Road Stringband (Lexington VA). Maybe considered one of the larger hotbeds for Old Time music during the 70s and 80s, Lexington was a sweet place to be playing and hearing Old Time music. The Plank Road SB was a band that emerged from this scene and some of the folks we play with today were in that band (Andy Williams, Al Tharp). They have become the ones to pass along the stories, the tunes and the good times that make this niche culture so special. This tune is one we learned from them and instills that raucous, frenzied spirit we love so well.
lyrics
See that girl dressed so fine
Ain’t got Jesus on her mind
Ain’t got Jesus…Ain’t got Jesus on her mind
Wanna go to heaven, yes I do
Wanna go to heaven with the Johnson crew
Wanna go to heaven…Wanna go to heaven with the Johnson crew
Hey little girl, can’t you see
Ain’t get to heaven with a fool like me
Ain’t get to heaven…Ain’t get to heaven with a fool like me

Great choice of music, expertly played and sung. Nicely produced. I hope to see The Onlies live, asap. This is an album I listen to over and over. Karamogo
The musicianship--it is ALIVE, PULSING and joyous, sometimes quietly, sometimes raucously, always with their hearts in it. Among all the gems, Old Paint's banjo is one of the most beautiful arrangements ever, and that Cocaine Blues really swings--great fiddling, Josh! lenapple
